Things are not always what they seem - be informed and awake

Marlon Mata graduated from De La Salle University, Philippines in 1998 with Bachelors Degree in Physical Therapy. Following qualification, he started his career in Sports Medicine working closely with Physiatrist and Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in lower limb and post op rehabilitation. He handled wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions using advanced manual therapy skills, taping, and exercise prescription. He did private home care physiotherapy services and volunteer community work for those who were unable to afford private health care.

After 3 years, he moved to the UK and began his career in the NHS. He rotated in different specialties and gained better understanding of the wider MDT approach to patient management. He improved his physiotherapy skills in handling general medical, surgical, pulmonary, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.

Marlon completed several postgraduate certificate and diploma degrees in Acupuncture, Physiotherapy Triage and Orthopaedic medicine in the UK. In 2010, he finished the Advanced Clinical practice in Orthopaedic Medicine and subsequently gained a Diploma in Injection Therapy.

As an ESP Physiotherapist in the NHS, Marlon’s caseload is mainly composed of complex peripheral and spinal patients. He runs a weekly injection therapy and triage clinic within the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service. Apart from his clinical diagnostics skills, he also utilises the use of blood tests and medical imaging in managing his patients. He works alongside GPSI (Orthopaedic and Rheumatology specialists) and Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal surgeons in the ESP led spinal clinic.

Marlon is committed to continuing professional development. He continues to update his knowledge and skills through self-directed learning, course attendances and peer review. He puts into professional practice recommendations from current evidences. He leads the MSK team in In Service Trainings and provides regular training programs to local GP’s regarding musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and management.Marlon is committed to continuing professional development.
